Marion County Commissioner Leon Suderman was sworn into office Monday. This begins Suderman’s third term as commissioner representing the First District.

Colleen Hajek of Marion has qualified as a Mary Kay team manager and earned the free use of red Pontiac Grand AM, presented to her Saturday at Irv Schroeder County Motors in Hillsboro.

LeRoy and Lila Hoffman of Marion will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Jan. 22 with a reception at the Marion Christian Church.

Thies Tax and Accounting in Marion has been sold to Jim Labelle of Wichita. Jim’s Accounting and Tax Service now operates at the same location, 104 N. Fifth. Thies will open an Edward D. Jones investment office later this year that will serve all of Marion County.

Dr. Don Stangle, Newton optometrist, was found guilty Jan. 4 on charges of involuntary manslaughter and driving under the influence. The charges stem from the death June 25 of Kaye Bartel, Hillsboro, on US-56 near Hillsboro.
