Gaslights in Central Park have been fully repaired but the expense to maintain them is increasing city commissioners learned Monday. Greeley Gas Co. has been providing a year’s supply of mantles, and this year’s supply is exhausted.

Many of those in attendance at the ceremony enjoyed refreshments provided at Marion Elementary School by Marion Kiwanis Club after the service.

Muriel Wolfersperger of Peabody is Amy Smith’s choice this week as the person who “made a difference” in their community. Wolfersperger has helped bring much of the history of Peabody to the attention of visitors.

A tip of the hat goes to Merv and Winnie Hartke on their masterful renovation of the downtown building at 314 E. Main in Marion that for years was the home of the Western Auto Store.

Marion native Carla Stovall formally filed Friday for the office of Kansas attorney general.
