County Commissioners Charles DeForest, Linda Peterson, and Leon Suderman are pictured on the front page as they took an inspection tour Friday of the former First Federal building Monday. The building is being converted to offices for the county health department, planning commission, and emergency preparedness coordinator.

A group of recent Marion High School graduates returned to their alma mater recently to speak with students about life in college. Graduates speaking were Charlie Helmer, Nicki Swift, Iris Shanklin, Brett Sprowls, Jason Bina, Glenn Krispense, Sheldon Bina, Ashley Loomis, Kris Groening, and Chris Hett.

Last week three fires caused panic among families in Marion. Two chimney fires were tended to by the Marion Fire Department: at the Harold Keazer home on Tuesday and at the home of Carl Bass on Thursday. The third fire was due to hot ashes left in the house at the Bill Pickering home.

Staff writer Amy Smith chose Alfred Riffel of Lincolnville as this week’s “Person who made a difference.” Better known as Al to hundreds of friends, Riffel has been a great asset to Lincolnville and the Centre area.
