Monday marked the first day the new physical education building at Marion Elementary School was put into use by the eager children. Three Emporia State University seniors majoring in physical education came to Marion to work with youngsters of all grades, helping them learn skillful activities.

Kansas Department of Transportation announced the Ronald D. Herbel retired Dec. 1 after 33 years of service. Herbel worked as an engineering technician at KDOT’s sub-area office in Marion.

Marion High School students Heather Pope, Allison Ford, and Garrett Varenhorst visited Emporia State University during Education Career Day there and are shown visiting with Dr. Bill Samuelson of the ESU faculty. Others from MHS in attendance were Katrina Hancock and their sponsor, Mary Griffith.

Amy Smith, in the new series about people “who made a difference” in the Marion community, writes about Dr. Elmer K. Schroeder, who retired in 1987 after 40 years service to the community. He sold his practice to Mark Heidebrecht, DDS, and continued to assist him until Dr. Heidebrecht was acquainted.

New postmasters were installed Wednesday at Lincolnville and Cedar Point. Amy Miller was sworn in as postmaster at Lincolnville and Jay Christensen became the new postmaster at Cedar Point.
