Marion County Commissioners formally moved to accept a lease-purchase agreement with Central National Bank Marion County, which will allow the county to acquire the former First Federal Building in Marion. The bank will finance the lease-purchase, and will pay up to $25,000 for remodeling and repairs.

Marion High School classes planning reunions on Old Settlers’ Day include the 10-year reunion of the Class of 1983, 45th anniversary of the Class of 1948, and the golden anniversary of the Class of 1943.

Three students from Marion County, Ashley Loomis of Marion, Jeremy Johnson of Hillsboro, and Leyla Strotkamp of Peabody have been named Summerfield and Watkins-Berger students at the University of Kansas.

Tom Grosse, owner and operator of Grosse Construction and Marion County Landfill, died Friday when a bridge he was working on, near Sedgwick, collapsed. Grosse was operating a backhoe removing part of the bridge deck, when the deck collapsed. Harold Richmond of Peabody, who was working with Grosse on the project, was injured.

Despite a 27-6 defeat at Eureka, Marion High School coach Grant Thierolf is confident the team will improve.
