Bigger and better. That was the consensus of both young and old who attended Old Settlers’ Day parade Saturday.

Nowak Construction Co. will begin work Monday on the expansion project at Marion Athletic Park. New baseball diamonds will be constructed and the existing diamond will be improved.

Marion Stadium was filled with classes holding Old Settlers’ Day reunions. Many of those attending saw the new lighting system for the first time. And the new visitors’ bleachers also saw their first use.

20th Century Club members Terrie Colburn and Shirley Jo Hett are pictured presenting a check for $90 to Marion County EMS crew chief Gene Winkler to help pay for new jackets for the Marion crew members.

T.C. Ensey, family practice physician in Marion for 33 years, retired to the Missouri Ozarks and McPherson. Hobbies include wood carving, keeping his scalpel skills sharp. He brought two recent carvings to share with countless friends on OSD. One is of his former home at 115 Elm and the other of the Marion County Courthouse.

King Thurston Thies is pictured as he escorts Homecoming Queen Traci Darrow during festivities Friday night at Marion Stadium. Queen Traci presided over the homecoming game while King Thurston ran rampant on the gridiron, scoring three touchdowns in the 32-6 Warrior victory over Bluestem.
