Senate Minority Leaders Jerry Karr and 70th District Rep. Duane Goossen attended a legislative “coffee” in Marion Saturday and are pictured on the front page along with Ed Costello who introduced them at the Marion Chamber of Commerce-sponsored meeting.

Florence Middle School students rode “The Convincer,” a trailer-mounted slide which simulates a 15 mile-per-hour auto crash, during Issues and Answers Day held Friday at the school.

Leadership Marion County class of 1992 took a field trip to Topeka Feb. 19 to learn more about state government. Pictured as they visited Gov. Joan Finney are class members Brent Miles, Janet Marler, Frances Mueller, Bill Harmon, Dorothy Deckert, Teresa Higgins, Dale Regier, Carolyn Moore, Brad Becker, JoAnn Knak, John Dalke, and Bret O’Dell.

“Beary Special Babies” born at St. Luke Hospital during February included Sheldon Raine Boone born Feb. 15; Julia Marie Zeiner, Feb. 22; and Jacob Levi Stephens, Feb. 24.

Marion historian Phyllis Melton related stories of several early Marion settlers when she spoke Monday noon at the Marion Kiwanis Club meeting.
