Guest speaker at the 46th annual meeting of Marion County Conservation District Feb. 29 will be meteorologist Cecil Carrier. Carrier is well known in the area from years of public appearances and as weather prognosticator for area radio and television stations.

Ryan Spohn and Amy Erickson were crowned winter homecoming king and queen Friday before Centre’s games against Wakefield.

Pam Kruse and Elly Barta-Moran, both of Marion, earned I ratings during the district piano festival competition Saturday and will participate in the state festival Feb. 22 at Wichita State University.

Wichita resident and former Marionite Douglas A. Heerey has been named a finalist in UARCO Inc., forms systems competition. Heerey’s form is one he designed for Shepler’s Inc. at Wichita.

Marion High School girls’ cross-country team members Iris Shanklin, Angie Bina, Kim Kreutziger, Mandy Inlow, Pam Kruse, Kay Summervill, Amanda Janzen, and Coach Rex Wilson met Jan. 30 with Gov. Joan Finney and Senate Minority Leader Jerry Karr in Topeka. The squad was introduced to the full Senate and was the subject of Senate Resolution 1816, commending the team and Wilson, school administrators and faculty, and “every citizen of this proud community who vigorously support and encouraged the team’s success.”
