Marion Summerfest ’91 kicks-off at 7:30 p.m. Saturday with a bluegrass quintet performing on Central Park Stage. “Bluegrass Country” with Jack and Mike Theobald brings 18 years of professional recording and live performance experience to the stage.

Kansas Flying Farmers held their annual picnic Sunday at Marion County Lake. Between 50 and 60 members attended, landing at Marion Municipal Airport.

Julie Harbison, daughter of John and Arlene Harbison of Florence, was named student of the month for May by the faculty of Marion High School.

Pauline Edmunds is retiring after teaching at Marion for 40 years. At one time, she considered teaching for the record of 42 years—the longest anyone has taught in the district. Still, her 40 years of educating will go down in the record books.

Kelly Enos, daughter of Eugene and Phyllis Enos of Marion, received her nursing pin May 18 at formal pinning ceremony held at the Bethel College Mennonite Church in Newton.

The 20th annual Marion Fishing Derby is set for Sunday at Marion Reservoir.

A one-room schoolhouse originally from the Marion area has become a popular tourist site. Tours of the historic Dobbs School began Saturday at its present location on the north end of the Emporia State University campus.
