Hannaford Abstract and Title Co. quietly celebrated the firm’s 120th anniversary this month. In business since 1871, the company held a dinner for regular professional clients earlier this month, but little else was planned

Two recent improvements at Central Park include a landscaped flag pole, a memorial to the late Darlene Johnson McReynolds, a 1943 graduate of Marion High School, and the circular brick flower bed, a memorial to Robert Brooker, former Marion businessman.

Applications were made this week to merge, or consolidate, Durham State Bank, Durham, with the Farmers and Drovers National Bank in Marion.

The Pilsen State Bank was founded in 1916, survived the Great Depression, relocated from Pilsen to Lincolnville, and is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year.

Pictured are Dave Hett and Rick Richmond as they assist in spreading concrete to edge a volleyball court constructed as a memorial to the late Lance Flaming of Marion. The sand-filled court is located adjacent to and south of the basketball court in Central Park and is ready for use.

Among the 750 boys chosen to attend the 54th annual American Legion Boys’ State of Kansas are four juniors from Marion County: Alan Meisinger, Jason Summerville, and John Wheeler of Marion, and Uriah Titus of Hillsboro. Brett Sprowls will serve as alternate.
