Council Grove attorney Michael Powers has been named Eighth Judicial District judge by Gov. Joan Finney. Other final candidates were Marion attorneys Robert Brookens and Ed Wheeler. Powell will take office in late May or early June.

“Beary Special Babies” born at St. Luke Hospital in March and April include Benjamin Doyle Welton, Jayme Ray Britton, Megan Marie Vick, Jessica Anne Lago, and Shant`e Marie Hardin.

Alonzo Jamison, basketball player for the University of Kansas, is scheduled to appear at the basketball camp July 11-13 at Marion High School. Bob Chipman, head coach for Washburn University and Askia Jones, member of the Kansas State University squad, also will staff the camp.

Representative Duane Goossen sponsored Florence Middle School students Kadon Hodson and Jennie Groening as pages April 26 in the Kansas Legislature.

Members of Marion Chamber of Commerce and potential members are invited to a “business after hours” open house at 5 p.m. Friday at the Marion County Record office.
