We hope the commissioners at their next levy of taxes will provide a sum large enough to meet all the needs of the county in cash, on demand.

There’s just no sense at all and certainly no economy in the county being a year behind always in the payment of its debts. It is better and wiser to have a surplusage than a deficiency of funds.

When county paper is fluctuating in value, services rendered the county are proportionately higher priced.

A dumb and deaf beggar, apparently Russian, was around taking in the stamps Wednesday.

There are a fraction less than a thousand dogs in this town, more than necessary for the welfare of the citizens.

The boast of our town that it has never lost a house by fire came near its end Monday. The meat market opposite this office narrowly escaped burned from a pipe nuisance that ought to be supplanted by a chimney.

While so many towns in Kansas are getting ready for an arbor day, would it not be well for Marion Centre, the best town of them all, to begin agitating the question, too? The looks of a town may be improved wonderfully by very little effort at tree planting and shrub growing.
