130 teachers visit Pilsen

Staff writer

It’s not unusual for students to visit Pilsen to tour St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church and tour the Father Emil Kapaun museum. However, Monday was the first time a group of teachers visited.

About 130 teachers and staff from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Derby and Bishop Carroll Catholic High School in Wichita made the trip.

A Bishop Carroll teacher said her children attend Kapaun Mount Carmel schools and have been to Pilsen, and she appreciated the opportunity to come to Pilsen for the first time.

Another teacher said she has taken classes on Kapaun and read books about him, so she was pleased to see firsthand where he grew up.

Guests were served lunch and gathered in the sanctuary afterward, where Bishop John Hotze of the Wichita Diocese told of his trip to Rome in November to advocate for the beatification of Father Kapaun. He also took questions from the audience.
