The schools opened Monday morning, all the teachers being in their places. The attendance is about the same as it has been for the past two years. Enrollment at present is a total of 458; of course there are quite a number who will enter later.

Mr. W.E. Christ, an enterprising young man, has bought an interest in Geo. Hauser’s Meat Market, and the new firm will maintain the excellent reputation of this popular market, at the old stand.

G.K. Madison, representing the Record Publishing Co. of Peoria, Ill., called upon us this week in the interest of his company, and in gathering data, assisted by a capable corps of writers, for the forthcoming biographical work soon to appear in this county. Such a work when the noble fathers and mothers who have braved the hardships of pioneer life have passed away, and years roll on, must be held in high esteem.

There is a new industry in Wilson. It is the sorghum factory of J.C Thomas, located two and a half miles south of Canada. Mr. Thomas has now running in full blast a 300-gallon press mill, but for want of help cannot get the cane fast enough, so he will run out about 150 to 200 gallons of syrup per day.

Mr. Harpy Gilbert, son of Hon. J.E. Gilbert of Lincolnville, and station agent at Antelope, died last Friday morning of malarial fever. He was sick but a short time.
