Mr. Geo. E. Lincoln, who has been running a new Democratic paper in Marion for a month or so, left Tuesday for a more lucrative job in New York. We understand that the paper will not be continued.

Our old townsman, John Mehl, writes us from Hillsboro denying the recent report in the Record that he died a short time ago in Colorado. He says he is alive and again lives in Hillsboro. As John knows more about this matter than our informer, we gladly “take it back.”

The Record failed to note last week the railroad accident which happened to Louis Elliott of Hillsboro or more lately of Florence, by which he lost a foot. He now is in the company’s hospital at Topeka and doing as well as could be expected. He had but recently been married to Miss Lilly Tobbs, of this city.

Shanklin’s feed mill is all ready for business now.

Lawyer C.L. Dean has fitted up an elegant office, a suite of rooms on the second floor of the First National Bank building. Mr. Dean is a finely educated gentleman, and a good lawyer.

A whisky case from Peabody before Justice Billings brought a good many citizens from the anti-joint town to Marion yesterday.

Among those killed in the Wellington cyclone was a young barber, formerly of Marion and know here as “Shorty” Upson. He was found in the ruins of the Phillips house and the man he had been shaving was found dead in the barber chair.
