W.J. Wright, who has just returned from a two years’ course at the Salina Normal, has returned to Marion and is ready to wield the rod over any first class school according to the latest university methods.
A little boy, about eight years of age, son of Gerhart Bergman, of Durham township, was found on the prairie, last Sunday afternoon, nearly dead. He was able to say, before he died, however, that he had been trampled by a bull he was herding with other stock. His breast was mashed, fearfully.
Five years ago, on the 12th day of August, 1886, a handful of Baptists met together in the Presbyterian church of this city and organized the First Baptist church of Marion. On Wednesday of this week, the church celebrated its fifth anniversary.
The waterworks question has at last been satisfactorily settled. A contract has been signed for two years, by which the city is to pay $1200 per year for thirty hydrants.
Mr. and Mrs. T.W. Bown, in conspiracy with a number of young friends of their pretty daughter, Nellie, perpetrated a genuine surprise on the young lady Wednesday evening in honor of her fifteenth birthday. Miss Gladys Jones inveigled the victim out riding and in their absence, the gay invaders took possession. A delightful surprise, and a delightful time it was all around.
