W.G. Ballard has rented the barber shop under the First National Bank. He is an excellent barber.

Cy Truitt of Marion secured the contract for two bridges in Clear Creek Township.

If you have lost a canary bird, call at Knapp & Scott’s grocery, as they have a stray canary which they wish to restore to its owner.

Through the efforts of Messrs. Eby & Lucas, Mr. J.D. Bagby of this city, who is believed to be the only survivor of the Black Hawk War, has been granted a pension of $24 a month, with several months’ arrearages. It comes in the nick of time to lighten the burdens and brighten the declining years of the good man and his excellent wife.

Lew Williams returned last Monday from the wilds of southern Chase County, where he has made good money all winter trapping, besides having lots of fun.

The Editor of the Record, already too busy, has had another burden heaped upon him. It is the job of keeping M.S. Bryan straight during the absence of his wife and children who left yesterday for a visit in Illinois.

Cyrus Locklin arrived home the first of the week from Colorado. He hurried home we reckon to see that new grandson at Albert Farr’s.
