Alex Christie, the popular jeweler, has a new jewel more valuable than any in his store. It is a girl.

The great snow has gradually been melting away since the last issue of the Record, making the roads resemble Illinois roads. Hard to travel but fine for the wheat.

The old Central Hotel, vacant since the fire wrecked it a year or so ago, presents an appearance of life again. The Troy Laundry people now occupy it.

There was a jolly lot of Rock Island passengers who were snowbound here three days last week. We had intended to “write them up” in our lavish way, and took copious notes for the purpose, with names and personal peculiarities with which to embellish the business, but its snow use, its snow use to try to do the subject justice, we find, with our limited space and unlimited material, and so we sidetrack our intentions.

The commissioners created a new municipal township Wednesday comprising congressional township 18-1, and on the recommendation of the petitioners, named it Moore, in honor of its popular citizen, Mr. J.W. Moore, County Treasurer. This is the first honor of the kind, we believe, ever conferred on a citizen of the county.
