Marion was startled Wednesday afternoon about five o’clock by the news, which flew like lightning, that the large boiler at the Cottonwood Roller Mills, a mile and a half south of town, had exploded. Three men were said to have been killed. The writer was soon on the ground, and found a terrible wreck, but found that the loss of life was not as reported.

Probably the most thoroughly enjoyable and recherché social event of all the year occurred at the residence of Mr. V.P. Duvall in Wilson township, last Wednesday evening, at which time Mr. Albert Sherk, of McPherson, led to the hymeneal altar Miss Daisy Duvall, the lovely daughter of Mr. and Mrs. V.P. Duvall, Superintendents of the Poor Farm.

Mr. W.M. Hall, the photographer, has taken some fine views of the boiler wreck, which can be procured at his gallery in the Jex block.

The advantage of living in a good neighborhood and having friends was happily illustrated the other day by a train of farm teams, loaded with lumber, coming out of J.F Carter’s yards. Dal Yost lost his barn by fire a week or two ago, and his neighbors turned out and helped haul the lumber for the new one.

The loser of that little boy’s coat found about two months ago has not called for it yet. Come and get it.
