Marion County Commission approved a conditional use permit Monday for the proposed Doyle North 2 wind power project west of Florence.

It was beginning to look a lot like Christmas when the holiday lights outlining Marion’s downtown buildings were turned on Monday afternoon. City of Marion workers took advantage of moderate weather conditions to repair light sockets and replace bulbs. Marion resident Roger Schroeder, 26, has accepted the public relations and foundation director position with St. Luke Hospital.

John Garrard of Antelope brought sweet potatoes he grew measuring about a foot long and weighing more than 7 pounds each in to the Marion County Record office. Garrard said this was the first time he has grown sweet potatoes and figured his prized produce could have been even larger if he would have cleared more rocks from his soil.

Marion High School Class of 1966 celebrated its 45th class reunion on Old Settler’s Day weekend. On Friday, they got together at the home of Stan and Donna May to reminisce. They rode in the parade Saturday morning and participated in the park activities during the day. Saturday evening, there was a dinner and auction at Country Dreams Bed and Breakfast.
