A house fire on Christmas Day destroyed the house at 221 S. Garfield occupied by Jack Branson and owned by Eldon Hett.

Branson and his one-year-old daughter, Isabell, were in the home at the time of the fire and escaped injury.

The building has been demolished and Branson, who works for Circle D in Hillsboro, has moved to a different rental home in Marion.

Marion High School’s students for the month of December are seniors Patrick Hodson and Ariel Depler,

Members of the Aulne United Methodist Church youth group spent Dec. 27 and 28 at the Snow Creek ski resort near Kansas City, Missouri They were McKenzee Remmers, Cheyenn Richter, Jared and Emily Hague, Erika Just, Becca and Courtney Williams, and Quinton and Jeremy Hett.

Volunteers who have worked at St. Luke Hospital Auxiliary Shoppe in downtown Marion were recognized for their services Dec. 26 at a luncheon at the Historic Elgin Hotel and Bed and Breakfast, Marion. Live entertainment included former KFDI radio personality Little Donnie Do Dad.

The public is invited to a farewell reception for Bob Hein, Marion County Commissioner, from 2 to 4 p.m. Jan. 6 at the courthouse.

December students of the month at Marion Elementary School are Emma Soyez, Brayden Hulett, Karlee Fetrow, Mackenzie Eden, Noah Albin, Veronika Huse, Bryant Eden, Blake Gormley, Jarred Rahe, Jayden Spencer, Jazmin Lewis, Jarret McLinden, Nathan Baldwin, and Grace Neal.
