The nine members in attendance at the Marion County Public Safety and Law Enforcement Center Committee voted last week to unanimously disband the committee, saying it had met its mandate to recommend a course of action to replace the existing jail.

The burden to decide what to do about the jail now is on the shoulders of the county commission.

Darin Neufeld has chosen Marion to set up shop for his engineering company – Evans, Bierly, Hutchinson and Associates. He said he was lured to Marion mainly because of the school system.

Josh and Brianna Moffet soon will be leaving their home in Lincolnville for duty in Iraq. Josh will begin his third tour of duty there and Brianna will begin her second.

The Moffets met during their first tour in 2005 when they were stationed in Kuwait. She was the driver of their Humvee and Josh was the gunner.

This time around danger is not what worries them most — this time they will be leaving three young daughters in the states with Brianna’s aunt in Louisiana.

Warren Fike and Jim Donahue were presented with rocking chairs Saturday at the Tampa State Bank hog roast. The two men recently retired from the bank’s board of directors. Fike served for almost 20 years, and Donahue for 35 years.
