Marion County residents experienced the full spectrum of winter weather in the past seven days. Winter storms with below zero wind chills were followed by temperatures in the 30s and 40s.

A representative of Homes for Our Troops is pictured showing a lot in County Club Heights, Marion, where a new home will be built for Ryan and Carrie Newell. The Maryland-based organization is building a new home for the family with help from area volunteers.

The outstanding employee of the month at St. Luke Hospital is Shawna Winter, physical therapist assistant, who has been at St. Luke for the past 10 years.

Marion High School will crown a king and queen of the courts Friday evening. Queen candidates are Kristen Geis, Kayley Heerey, and Bridget Lundy. Brady Hudson, Eric Vogel, and Isaac Hett are king candidates.

Army Sgt. Molly Holub and her dog, Jody, were recognized for outstanding performances as a specialized search dog team while stationed in Iraq.

Carol Makovec, Ramona, retired in December from her job as a secretary for Shawmar Oil Company Inc., in Marion. She worked for the company for 26 years, beginning Jan. 4, 1984.
