After the Marion County Commission put the final touches on the estimated costs of a new county jail Friday afternoon, Marion Mayor Mary Olson informed the commission that there was a petition circulating from those Marion residents who are not in favor of the proposed location of the new jail.

Labor Day this year offered something for everyone, with celebrations taking place in Florence, Burdick, and at the Marion County Lake.

The first varsity high school action the new USD 408 gymnasium will see is this Saturday when the 12-team Mid-Central Activities Association volleyball tournament is held.

The 30th annual Marion Art in the Park and Craft Show will be Sept. 20 in Central Park, downtown Marion and the 39th annual Hillsboro Arts & Crafts Fair will be the same day in downtown Hillsboro.

The family of Norman and Vivian Mueller, rural Marion, request a card shower to celebrate their parents’ 60th wedding anniversary. A family celebration will mark the occasion during the Thanksgiving holiday.

Tim Young and Judy Noller, both of Marion, were crowned champions Aug. 24 of the annual Marion Country Club championship men’s and women’s tournaments. Tim Christensen of Marion earned the senior championship trophy.
