Theme for this year’s Old Settlers’ Day has been announced by Marion Kiwanis Club. “Marion Reservoir — 40 Years of Fun” will mark the anniversary of the construction of the dam and lake.

Joseph Hall of Lincoln, Nebraska, is one of 40 semi-finalists on NBC’s “America’s Got Talent.” The Elvis tribute artist performed on stage for the first time, just 14 months ago, in June 2007 at Marion’s Chingawassa Days.

Tammy Hinton of Florence received her first dollar of profit from Marion Chamber of Commerce as owner of Stone City Café, Marion. Hinton has operated the business since mid-July. Chamber representatives pictured with Hinton are Margo Yates, Doug Kjellin, Greg Bowers, Melissa Parmley, Dave Mayfield, Alex Case, Trudy Slifer, Kevin Fruechting, and Mickey Lundy.

Marion Elementary School fourth grade class took its annual water study day trip to Luta Creek Friday. The students were able to take canoe rides, do water painting, make origami boats, and learn about sedimentary procedures. Taylor May, Tyler Arocha, and Garrett Alleven are pictured with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers park ranger Neil Whitaker as he shows students which organism live at the bottom of the creek and talked to them about the water system.
