More than 100 people braved the cold weather Wednesday evening to attend the Marion County Record and Marion Chamber of Commerce Christmas in Marion finale. Grand prizewinners’ names were drawn with Julie Nelson winning the grand prize of $350. Other cash winners were Joyce Loomis, $200; Carl Helm, $150; Eva Smith, $100; Sharon Kelsey, $75; Juanita Stovall, $50; and Joe Lovelady, $25.

A kerosene lamp was blamed for a house fire Dec. 12 that completely destroyed a house at Aulne. The area was without electricity at the time and the lamp was being used to light the home.

Molleker brothers Aaron, 12, and Adam, 15, each bagged his first deer Dec. 2 at the former Marion County landfill.

Eugene Enos is pictured displaying a partially completed wall hanging being made by him for a customer in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Enos began making wooden Christmas tree ornaments in the past year and since March has created 80 pieces. Most of them are given to family members, but a few are on sale at River Mill Woods in Marion, a retail store operated by his son, Daryl and his wife, Pat.

A new shelter house will be built at Central Park in memory of former Marion resident Mark Applegate. Memorial funds will be used with the city providing a wheelchair ramp and electricity.
