A gusty Kansas wind was an unwelcome guest Saturday for Old Settlers’ Day, but that did not stop a hearty crowd from lining Main Street for the 96th annual parade.

Karen Druse has been named outstanding employee at St. Luke Hospital for the fourth quarter of 2007. She has been a dedicated employee at St. Luke for more than 28 years.

Eight students at Marion High School are enrolled in Arabic I at Marion High School. USD 408 is one of just six districts in the state to offer Arabic as a foreign language. It is taught via satellite television as an Interactive Distance Learning class. Class members are Seth Banning, Joe Norris, Andrew Regalado, Mara Prescott, Hank Collett, Casey Legg, Michelle Vinduska, and Jon Nesser.

The Czech community of Pilsen will be highlighted this week on the Czech TV Internet station in Chicago. Pictured are Paul Meysing and Eugene Vinduska who were among several individuals in Pilsen who were interviewed in July for the program.

Austin Hager and Tacy Taylor were named Marion High School 2007 homecoming king and queen Friday before the football game against Hoisington.

The fifth annual Santa Fe Trail Fest will be held Oct. 14 at the Tampa ball diamond. Entertainment will be provided by Trail Song Willie with trail history given by Virginia Bentz.
