The City of Marion is optimistic about growth and development. So much so, it has put some money where it matters—in a 10,000 square-foot metal shell speculation building in the city’s industrial park.

Marion High School announced its 2007 homecoming candidates the past week at an all-school assembly. The winning couple will be announced Friday prior to the Marion vs. Hoisington football game. Candidates are Kimber Hardey, Chase Carlson, Tacy Taylor, Austin Hager, Bret Billings, and Lauren Helmer.

Kansas Highway Patrol Technical Trooper Robert Craft of Marion retired Sept. 10 from the patrol after serving for 26 years.

Congressman Jerry Moran recently re-appointed Richard Schwartz of Marion to serve on the First District Service Academy Selection Board.

Harold Bowers, 94, Marion, is pictured standing by a display of 70 different kinds of barbed wire he collected during a working lifetime as a heavy equipment operator in several states. It can be seen at Marion Historical Museum, which will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

Henry “Hank” Collett, Marion High School senior, was named this past week as a commended student in the 2008 National Merit Scholarship program. Collett is the son of Keith and Anne Collett of Marion.
