Marion County Firefighters Association will host a family fireworks extravaganza at dusk Sept. 2 at Marion County Lake. The fireworks show will top off a long list of activities which will take place at the lake hall area on the west side of the lake.

Joe and Joann Nowak of rural Marion will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Aug. 20. They would appreciate hearing from friends and relatives as they celebrate this special occasion.

Brian Fruechting and Cody Wildin of Marion were two of 36 players chosen for the ninth annual 15-year-old Babe Ruth All-Star Classic held at Elkhart Sunday. Wildin and Fruechting were chosen as two of 18 players on the West team.

Sharon Kelsey and her sister Margie Youk of New Orleans, Louisiana, are pictured as they display tomatoes, potatoes, green beans, and peppers that were grown in Gerald and Sharon Kelsey’s garden. Gerald grew the 1¾- to 2¼-pound tomatoes from seed.

Perry and Barbara Steiner of Marion will host a foreign exchange student through the SHARE! Program. Ozan Unal of Isparta, Turkey, will arrive this month and attend Marion High School.

Marion City Library will host a special program about Laura Ingalls Wilder: “Home Builder of the Prairie” at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the library. The public is invited to attend.
