Winter finally came to Marion County this past weekend, with an icy blast of arctic temperatures and frozen precipitation.

The board of Marion-Florence USD 408 voted unanimously Jan. 9 to schedule formal groundbreaking for the construction of the new auditorium at 12:15 p.m. Jan. 30.

Army Reserve Pfc. Eric R. Smith recently graduated from basic combat at Fort Jackson, Columbia, South Carolina. He is the son of Neva Cooper of Marion and a 2008 graduate of Marion High School.

Marion High School varsity scholars’ bowl team of Isaac Guetersloh, Lee Ownbey, Bret Billings, and Matt Thierolf finished second Jan. 4 at the Southeast of Saline meet.

Engagements announced in this issue were those of Sara Houdyshell and Randal Batman, Lisa Stone and Christopher Licause, and Kelsey Craig and Jordon Metro.

Marion Family Physicians welcomes Karen Wheeler, ARNP, who will start seeing patients on Feb. 1.

Centre High School cheerleaders for the 2006-2007 basketball season are Amy Hajek, Samantha Alvarez, Justine Jennings, Jessica Deines, and Selena Seifert.
