About a half-inch of ice fell in Marion Nov. 29, urging caution for drivers and those on foot. The band of wintry weather sliced through the county with the southeastern part being the hardest hit.

Marion High School staff has selected Tacy Taylor and Riley Ross as students of the month for December. Taylor is the daughter of Todd and Robin Taylor of Marion. Ross is the son of Wallace and Kim Ross and Doug and Autumn Hansen, all of Marion.

Members of the Kansas Patriotic Guard greeted Spec. Simon Makovec Saturday at a surprise public reception held for him at Al’s Café in Lost Springs. Makovec is home on leave from Iraq. His parents, Gail and Marissa Makovec of Ramona, staged a surprise public reception for him the café.

A picture shows that at least two turkeys survived the Thanksgiving holiday. They are the pets of Jeremy Ensey of Valley Center. He keeps them at the farm of his grandmother, Jackie Hett of Marion, where he likes to visit as often as possible.

Seven Marion High School students participated in district music honors ensembles at Wichita State University. They are Tedra Eis, Jessica Vogel, Hank Collett, Jordan Timm, Luke Bowers, Bryce Nelson, and Lucy Collett.
