The weather couldn’t have been more perfect Friday evening when 237 walkers took to the track at Warrior Stadium for the annual Marion County Relay for Life event. The goal was $34,000. Raised was a record-breaking amount of $40,000 in donations to the American Cancer Society.

A group of residents and business leaders have formed a committee to propose a downtown improvement project. At the July 17 Marion City Council meeting, the council approved funds for an engineer to draw plans and provide cost estimates for decorative street lights, underground electrical wiring, and new benches, planters, and trash receptacles.

Stephen Priest, a recognized historian of the Santa Fe, BSNF, and Union Pacific railroads present a talk entitled “Railroads, the History and Heritage” at the August Chat and Dine meeting.

Marion High School students Kimber Hardey and Jessica Vogel participated in the 23rd annual Kansas Masonic five-day All-State High School Marching and Band Camp at Pittsburg State University. Hardey plays a horn and Vogel plays a flute.
