Honoring the 100th anniversary of Marion County Courthouse, Marion Kiwanis Club recently announced this year’s theme for the annual Old Settlers Day parade as “Marion County Courthouse: A Century of Progress.”

Three Marion High School boys have been selected to attend Boys’ State June 11-17 at Kansas State University, Manhattan. They are Isaac Guetersloh, Kyle Hett, and Riley Ross.

Raymond and Rita Kraus of Marion observed their 60th wedding anniversary May 22 at a family dinner in Wichita followed by an afternoon reception for relatives at the home of Paul and Diane Kraus at Derby.

An 80-member orchestra and a 100-member chorus performed Saturday in the “Symphony in the Flint Hills.” Held 2-miles north of US-50 on K-177 at the Tall Grass Prairie Natural Preserve, the event attracted more than 6,500 people.

Marion High School cheerleaders attended the National Cheerleading Association camp this past week at Emporia State University. The group consisted of Valaree Hett, Jade Hess, Lucy Collett, Kayala Jackson, Cassie Legg, Alyssa Seacat, Lana Carroll, Kari Tajchman, Tedra Eis, Jandee Sharp, and Erin Richmond.

Area farmers began harvesting wheat during the past week, about a week to 10 days ahead of the average start.
