The 10-year anniversary of Chingawassa Days came and went this past weekend. The festival included events from the first year in 1996, and some that were tried for the first time. Co-committee chairman Mike Powers, who has been on the board all 10 years, thought the weekend event went well.

When Don Hayen set out to write his recent book “Moonshine Harvest” he made the location his old hometown, Marion, and liberally borrowed names of people and places familiar to all who lived there.

On May 28, the Sauble family celebrated the 150th anniversary of their ranch at Cedar Point by throwing a party for over 500 ranchers from all around the Flint Hills, as well as friends.

Dana Wear, Mary Kay Cosmetic consultant, will drive a 2006 Pontiac Vibe for two years, compliments of the cosmetic company as a reward for team building and sales during a four-month time period.

Misti Richmond received the Florence High School Alumni Association’s $1,000 scholarship May 27 during the 110th alumni banquet at Florence gymnasium.

Gary Spohn and Mayor Jim Clemmer, Tampa, are pictured holding signs protesting the closing of the Tampa post office. The post office was “temporarily” closed in May 2003 because of structural mold. Now three years later the town still does not have a post office.
