A new patrol car in the Marion County Sheriff’s Department sports a new look. The white Chevrolet Impala has bright blue lettering and a new-style light bar. Traditionally the department’s vehicles have been a dark color or tan. Deputy Duane McCarty will drive the new vehicle.

Marion High School’s musical cast and crew learned Monday they had been nominated for 10 Jester awards for their fall production of “The Music Man.”

Two Marion County men, Joel Thomas of Marion and Lincolnville native Justin Bina of Coldwater, recently won the Kansas State Championship in the United States Team Roping Championship competition at Hutchinson.

Sophomore Jake Bredemeier is the week’s Athlete of the Week. Bredemeier qualified for his first 3A state golf tournament Monday with a round of 81 at the Salina regional. He tied for seventh with teammate Travis Hett, but lost in a playoff.

Members of the Marion County Mud Dawgs team competed in the skills competition this past weekend in the McPherson Classic baseball tournament. In the 10-year-old competition, James Jones won in base running and Grif Case in throwing and home run derby. Wil Case entered the 14-year-old home run derby and took first place.
