At the school board meeting Monday evening the following service awards were presented: Gary Stuchlik, Ken Arnhold, and Phoebe Janzen, 10 years; Ginger Becker, 15 years; Dick Maggard, 20 years; Bob Good, Margie Nienstedt, Jim Versch, and Shari Padgham, 25 years. Versch also was presented with a University of Kansas 25 years of service and education award.

Luke Gordon is this week’s Marion County Record Athlete of the Week. Gordon excelled in two sports this past week — the high jump at Hillsboro invitational May 1, the Marion golf invitational May 2, and the Marion/Hillsboro golf tourney May 10.

Engagements announced in this issue are those of Andrea Luna and Patrick Kenneally, who are planning a wedding in October, and Julia Ann Sellers and Phillip John Vaske, who will be married June 10.

Seniors Clayton Garnica and Katelyn Whitaker have been named students of the month at Marion High School. Both are personally involved in many activities in and outside of the school. Garnica is the son of Laura Legg. Neal and Kathy Whitaker are Whitaker’s parents.

A reception at the courthouse Monday morning honored David Brazil, who is leaving the county’s employ to be Cowley County’s public health administrator.
